Pajarito

On December 17th Random Acts was able to supprise the Pajarito Elementary after school literacy program with our Books and Balls program in hononr of one of our fellow firefighters who passed away earlier this year, Ernie Carassco.  There are 25 students who participate in an after school literacy program that tutors them and aims to improve their overall reading ability.  Random Acts was arrived at the school with lights and sirens blaring and completely supprised the students.  Each student was provided with a school kit filled with notebooks, pencils, crayons, rulers, and all the necessary supplies.  We were even able to give each student a personal dictionary that they could take home and use to improve their vocabulary as the read.  The students were elated at this point but we asked them if they wanted to see the trucks and they were overjoyed.  We went to the trucks, opened the doors, and the balls that had been crammed into the cab came pouring out onto the parking lot.  The students scrambled around gathering the balls and smiles stretched the limits of their cheeks. It was a fantastic event. Ernie Carrasco's family was on hand for the event and his mother even got a ride in the truck.  Hopefully this event will help generate tutors for the program as they are in dire need.
